In my comments I use the terms "Cream of the Crop" and the "Fabulous 50" - these are dahlia varieties which have accumulated a certain number of prizes for dahlia contests in both Canada and the United States. The Fabulous 50 refers to a variety that has won more than 50 prizes in any given season. Cream of the Crop refers to the same criteria, except the number of prizes is 15. This classification clearly indicates the popularity of the variety, but also its capacity to maintain its characteristics like conservation, stem strength, size, depth, color and maintenance. For example, the fact that the variety Zorro, introduced in 1989, has been part of the Fabulous 50 for over 20 years can probably serve to be a good indicator if you are searching for a beautiful, large red flower.
