Planting dahlia tubers
Planting tubers should be done with great care and at the right moment.WHEN TO PLANT?
You have to plant Dahlia when the soil temperature is between 10-15 ° C and the risk of frost has passed, in mid-May usually.
Sun exposure and soil preparation for dahlias
Dahlias prefer sunny and well ventilated locations, the more sunlight the more flowers. A minimum of 6 hours daily provides enough for abundant flowering. Most often, if placed in a more shaded area, they will tend to produce longer stems and brittle stems. However, there are some dwarf varieties that seem to adapt to this kind of exposure.
SOIL
Before planting the tuber or flower pot, we must make sure that the soil is rich and has good drainage. For sandy soil, a supply of compost mixed with your soil is a great way to amend and give your soil a good airy texture, as well as retain water. For a soil with higher clay levels, adding some sand and compost will help to drain water. Adding compost will also help retain nutrients with greater success. A pH level of 6.5 to 7 is ideal.
